Waste Classification and Offsite Disposal
Any excavation or installation of subsurface infrastructure that requires off-site disposal of soil must be adequately characterised before transportation to a legal off-site location can occur.
In Victoria, a waste must be classified to meet waste duties under Part 6.4 (Duties relating to industrial waste) and 6.5 (Duties and controls relating to priority waste) of the Environment Protection Act 2017, as amended by the Environment Protection Amendment Act 2018. The Environment Protection Regulations (the Regulations), Part 4.2 (Industrial Waste and priority waste) specifies the process for classifying waste.
Our waste classification documentation is prepared in accordance with Publication 1828.2 (March 2021) that establishes the characteristics and thresholds necessary for complying with the Regulations.
Orangrove Consulting can conduct prompt soil sampling of stockpiles or undertake an in-situ soil contamination assessment, NATA accredited laboratory testing and provide waste classification documentation for disposal at an appropriately licensed landfill or reuse options where applicable.
We can also provide advice to assist you to meet your General Environmental Duty (GED) that is included in Part 3.2 of the EP Act 2017 as part of the new regulatory regime that came into effect in Victoria on 1st July 2021, which has shifted focus from reactive to the preventative based approach now taken by EPA Victoria.
